HURRICANE DENNIS UPDATE #3:

It's official! The reunion (as we planned it) for July 15 & 16 has been cancelled. However, for those classmates that were traveling from out of town and the locals, we have made some plans to have a Saturday night informal get together starting at 6:30PM located at:

LJ Schooners Restaurant at BWB Marina
290 Yacht Club Drive
Niceville, FL 32578
Phone: (850) 897-6400

Hosts: Scott & Sherry Hinely
(thank you for accommodating us on short notice)

Directions: From HWY 20 in Bluewater Bay, turn onto Bay Drive, stay on Bay Drive, dead end to marina.

ONLINE INFO:

We have been successful in contacting all but a half dozen of nearly 90 people that signed up. Most everyone has agreed to let the class hold the money in the bank as credit for the next reunion. If unable to attend the next planned event then a full refund will be granted.

Dear committee members,

Consensus is as follows: it appears we should postpone the reunion at the Pelican Beach Resort due to 1) the Friday night event at the Beach Bar due to lack of beach and bar and 2) the Saturday night event may not have sufficient staff back in town to host us. Some members of the committee will try to get together tonight to come up with an activity for those that will be in town this Friday and Saturday. We are now looking to do a no host get together at Schooners Tiki Bar in Bluewater Bay, Niceville.

Committee members will attempt to call everyone that has paid since we only have about half the folks on email.

Classmate options are:

1)   Attend the no host (pay as you go event somewhere this Friday and Saturday) and get a full refund.

2)      Not attend and get a full refund.

3)      Attend or not, leave your money in for a postponed or future event at the same price event if we have to charge more to others. If you can’t attend the future event, then you will get a full refund at that time.

Tim

HURRICANE DENNIS UPDATE #2:

As of Sunday, July 10, 2005, at 12:30PM, if you see no further updates to this site, then you can assume the reunion has been postponed and we will notify everyone ASAP via a posting on this website.

Folks,

It’s looking bleak for the reunion at our planned site if the storm comes this way. And we don’t have enough time to plan an elaborate alternate location. I suggest that we provide some type of meeting place for the classmates coming from out of town anyway to meet up with locals that have time after cleaning up storm debris.

Reply with your vote:

1)     keep the date and hope for the best either at the Pelican Beach or the Eglin or Rocky Bayou Country Club

2)     postpone to the fall of 2005

3)     cancel (full or near-full refund to be determined later)

Thanks,
Tim

Dan,

I just called and left a message concerning our reunion event for July 15-16. I understand that the resort is under a mandatory evacuation and it is unknown when it will reopen. I talked with Dana at the front desk just a few minutes ago and she said our classmates with room reservations should not have to worry about getting charged a deposit for a no show due to the hurricane. I can only believe the same is true for our $500 deposit on the conference room.

In order for us to make a decision about our event I need to talk with you or someone by noon on Monday. Without a call back, we will base our decision on information obtained on the website http://www.pelican-beach.com/ by COB Monday to move, postpone or cancel our event.

Thanks,
Tim Parsons

HURRICANE DENNIS UPDATE #1:

It appears the area is going to be in a recovery period through next weekend at least. We sent a survey to classmates with emails on record and the vast majority of those traveling from out of town as well as locals said they preferred to postpone the reunion. At least two out of town classmates were coming into the area anyway and for them we will try to post a get together date/time and location on this website ASAP.

The tentative plan was to hold the reunion on the same day assuming we can find a suitable facility to accommodate us since the Pelican Beach Resort will likely be closed due to damage. We have tentatively setup the Eglin Golf Course in Niceville as a backup location for Saturday night. We may also hold it at Rocky Bayou Country Club on Friday or Saturday night. If the storm causes too much local damage, we may consider postponing the event until the fall of 2005. Check back here for updates.

Send your ideas or inputs on what to do about the reunion due to the hurricane to NHSClass80@yahoo.com
